WHEREAS community and regional airports are essential to the economic and social viability of the communities and regions that they serve; AND WHEREAS NAV Canada, owner and operator of Canadas civil air navigation system, is mandated by the Government of Canada to provide aircraft operators and airports with air traffic control, flight information, weather briefings, airport advisory services, aeronautical information services and electronic aids to navigation; AND WHEREAS owners of airports in British Columbia deem these services essential to the future viability of their airports and to the safety of aircraft and travelling public; AND WHEREAS NAV Canada is considering discontinuing certain aeronautical services such as Remote Aerodrome Advisory Service RAAS to some airports and is contemplating further air traffic service reductions at airports in British Columbia: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM encourage the federal government to direct NAV Canada to refrain from withdrawing further aeronautical services to community and regional airports in British Columbia.
