Provincial Response

Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs People experiencing homelessness and those with complex challenges deserve safe housing with supports to help them stabilize their lives. Supportive housing offers a broad range of health and social supports, with staff on-site, supporting people with health and support needs that differ in nature and complexity. Housing with on-site supports helps tenants maintain their housing, ensuring housing stability. To provide homes for people who have been experiencing homelessness and who have complex needs, the Province has focused on creating supportive housing with minimal barriers to entry. The Province recognizes that peoples needs change and that there is a need for a range of housing options for individuals. The province is committed to continuing our work to deliver new affordable housing options. Working with local governments and housing providers is vital to delivering supportive housing and health supports to reduce homelessness. Local governments play a key role in the successful planning and implementation of supportive housing and shelter facilities through their leadership in identifying appropriate sites, approving rezoning, and supporting local partnerships.
