UBCM will be hosting a series of webinars on the twenty-one (21) draft recommendations of the UBCM Special Climate Action Committee. The webinars will seek feedback on a series of recommendations on buildings, transportation, waste management, resilience, governance, and social mobilization. Comments on the draft Climate Action recommendations will be received until Sunday, August 23.
The recommendations are a roadmap of how British Columbia’s local governments can move towards a low-carbon future in which:
- All buildings are comfortable, leverage local resources and are low cost to operate.
- All British Columbians have transportation choices, like an electric personal vehicle or public transit, and feel safe moving around the Province.
- Across all sectors, we waste less and, when do create waste, we turn it into a clean resource.
- Communities all across the province are safe, secure, and resilient to risks like wildfires, floods and extreme weather.
- Residents and businesses are active partners with the local government in ensuring the safety of the community and building a vibrant low carbon economy.
- We create opportunities for our local industries to build on their strengths while providing new training and employment opportunities.
Three webinars, intended for local government elected officials and staff, will be held next week:
- Small Communities (area pop. up to 5,000) – July 28th, 10:00am to 11:30am
- Mid-Sized Communities (area pop. 5,001-20,000) – July 29th, 10:00am to 11:30am
- Large Communities & Regional Districts (area pop. 20,001+) – July 30th, 10:00am-11:30am
