Climate leadership learning opportunities

Publishing Date

Two opportunities for elected officials to participate in climate action leaning are coming up. One focuses on energy decarbonization, and a second five-webinar series is designed to support elected leaders in taking a leadership role in climate action. Both are hosted by the BC Municipal Climate Leadership Council (BCMCLC) and Community Energy Association (CEA).

A webinar on Energy Decarbonization and Meeting CleanBC 2030 Targets for all locally elected officials and Indigenous leaders across BC will be held on November 16, 1:30pm. The session will provide up-to-date information from BC Hydro on the future of BC’s electrification plans, and a report from the Pembina Institute on the role of renewable natural gas in the Zero Carbon Step Code.

BCMCLC and CEA have a collaborative coaching program to support local officials who are interested in enhancing their capacity for community leadership on climate action. The Climate Leaders Coaching Program will hold a five-webinar series from November 2023 to February 2024. These sessions will be led by Andrea Reimer, founder/principal of Tawâw Strategies and former three-term Vancouver City Councillor, and featuring communications specialist Norm Gludovatz. The topics covered will include time management, priority-setting, power relationships, crafting effective public narratives, building coalitions, and applying all of those skills towards making progress on local climate action.

About BCMCLC

The BC Municipal Climate Leadership Council is a network facilitated by the Community Energy Association with guidance from a steering committee composed of a dozen elected officials from across BC. BCMCLC brings together elected officials interested in accelerating the implementation of low-carbon solutions, while also supporting multiple community priorities. Network meeting topics and content will focus on networking, information sharing, and how high-impact projects in a community or region can be adapted successfully in other communities. The goal is to share and replicate outcomes, not effort. BCMCLC is supported by BC Hydro, the Real Estate Foundation of BC, Vancity, and the Government of BC’s Climate Action Secretariat.
