2026 Electoral Area Directors’ Forum

The 2026 Electoral Area Directors’ Forum will be held March 10-11 (Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning) at the Radisson Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, BC. 

The EAD Forum provides an opportunity to explore challenges common to electoral areas and identify potential solutions. The conference is open to electoral area directors and their alternates, regional district chairs and regional district staff.

UBCM to lead Heritage Conservation Act consultation

The provincial government’s consultation period for over 50 proposed changes to the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) has been extended until November 14. UBCM has developed a process for local government engagement and will contract with Randy Diehl (Diehl Management Services) to support its delivery. The engagement with local governments will include a survey of CAOs, follow up interviews with select staff, and webinars with elected officials to share preliminary findings.

2025 Asset Management BC Conference

Registration is now open for Asset Management BC’s annual conference: Advancing Asset Management in a Changing World, November 4-6, 2025 in Richmond, BC. The conference will be two days of practical, forward-thinking conversations on sustainable service delivery.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Rehan Sadiq, a leading voice in asset management, environmental risk analysis and lifecycle assessment of infrastructure systems.

Alcohol policy webinars

The University of Victoria’s Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research has announced a webinar series examining alcohol policy in local governments. Registration is now open for the first two webinars in September. 

This work is part of the Canadian Alcohol Policy Evaluation (CAPE), an ongoing Canada-wide research project that has been working to assess provincial, territorial and federal alcohol policies and their ability to reduce harms associated with alcohol consumption.
