Local Government Awareness Week: May 11 – 17, 2025

Publishing Date

Local Government Awareness Week starts on Sunday, May 11 and runs through to Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Given that infrastructure is such a significant part of local government service delivery but is often underappreciated or overlooked by the public, infrastructure is the theme for the week. Local governments are invited to tell the infrastructure story of their community or region, and the steps that are being taken to ensure sustainable service delivery.

Wednesday, May 14 is also Asset Management Day, strategically placed in the centre of Local Government Awareness Week.

Resources and engagement ideas are available on at the Local Government Awareness Week page. Some ideas are:

  • Run a social media campaign to feature local infrastructure projects through candid conversations with public works staff.
  • Host coffee chats with senior staff, and elected officials for the public to engage with the work of local governments
  • Offer tours of public works facilities
  • Invite residents to submit photos of an infrastructure scavenger hunt to win a prize

Use the #LGAW25 to connect with the provincial campaign online.
