Call for nominations: UBCM Executive

Publishing Date

Call for Nominations has been issued to local elected officials wishing to serve on the 2020-2021 UBCM Executive. Please note the significant changes for the 2020 Nominations and Elections, including that nominations will not be accepted off the floor at the virtual Convention. The deadline for all nominations is Friday, July 31, 2020.

The Call for Nominations provides information about the positions open for nomination, the procedures, Executive member responsibilities, as well as a nomination form.

Due to the current pandemic, the nominations and elections process has been amended to work within the new, virtual format for the 2020 Convention. The following changes have been made to the 2020 process:

  • Nominating Committee: In past years, the Nominating Committee consisted of the Immediate Past President and the five Area Association representatives on the UBCM Executive. However, recognizing that Area Association conventions (AGMs and elections) were cancelled due to COVID-19, and that there is a need to expedite the process for issuing the call for nominations, the UBCM Executive has appointed three (3) members of the Presidents Committee to serve on the 2020 Nominating Committee. These members were selected as they are not seeking re-election on the UBCM Executive. The members of the 2020 Nominating Committee are:
  • Councillor Arjun Singh, Immediate Past President, Chair
  • Mayor Maja Tait, President
  • Councillor Craig Hodge, GVRD/Metro Vancouver Representative
  • Deadline for all nominations: The deadline for all nominations is July 31, 2020. There will be no nominations off the floor at the virtual Convention.
  • Nomination forms: Nomination forms typically require the signatures of two elected officials. Since there are possible barriers to obtaining physical signatures during the pandemic, UBCM will allow nominators to send their confirmations by email, so long as the nominators clearly indicate in their email the name and title of the candidate they are nominating, and the Executive position the candidate is nominated for.
  •  Candidate speeches: Candidates will be asked to prepare a pre-recorded 2-minute speech, either by video or audio recording, that will be subsequently uploaded to the virtual Convention website for viewing by Convention delegates.

For further information, please contact Councillor Arjun Singh, Chair of the Nominating Committee.
