Disqualification of Regional District Employees from Municipal Office

WHEREAS regional district employees are disqualified from being nominated for, elected to or holding office as a member of the council of a municipality that is within the regional district; AND WHEREAS citizens with excellent leadership qualities are prevented from serving their communities simply on account of their employment; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities encourage the Province of British Columbia to amend the Local Government Act to allow for regional district employees to be nominated for, elected to or hold office as a member of the council of a municipality that is within the regional district.
