Input requested from disaster and emergency management practitioners

Publishing Date

The Disaster and Emergency Management National Core Competency Working Group is seeking input from local governments as part of its ongoing work to identify baseline competencies and capabilities to support the professionalization of disaster and emergency management. Local government staff working in this field are invited to complete a survey that will be used to further the development of a competency framework.

The survey is intended to help the Working Group better understand the identity of practitioners, paths to practice, and other needs that can be considered as part of any recommendations regarding a competency framework. The survey will be open until December 31, 2023.

The Disaster and Emergency Management National Core Competency Working Group is led by the Canadian Risk and Hazards Network and the International Association of Emergency Managers Canada. The group has been working for the past several years to identify a set of baseline competencies (e.g., knowledge, skills, talents) and capabilities for disaster and emergency management practitioners in Canada.

Questions or comments regarding the survey may be directed to Tarina Colledge, Manager of Emergency Management for the Fraser Valley Regional District, and Director of the BC Association of Emergency Managers.
