Example activities for Local Government Awareness Week: Infrastructure

Publishing Date

Local Government Awareness Week is just over a month away: May 12-18, 2024. The theme this year is Infrastructure. UBCM members are invited to participate by identifying a key infrastructure story in their area and engaging with residents on the work being done to ensure sustainable service delivery for growing and changing communities.

Complex issues facing local governments have significant implications for physical infrastructure, whether preparing for extreme weather events or accommodating a growing population. Local governments continue to strengthen their practice of asset management to support sustainable service delivery.

Some possible local activities are:

  • Open house tours of local infrastructure facilities.
  • Video profiles of key local government staff and departments, to help residents learn how things operate in their community.
  • Junior council, or a mayor for the day program in partnership with local schools.

More resources are available on the Local Government Awareness Week page.
