The Province’s Civil Forfeiture Grant Program is now accepting applications from organizations seeking funding for community safety initiatives. Interested local governments have until Wednesday, November 22, 2023 (4:30 PM) to submit their applications.
Each applicant may apply for up to $40,000 in one-time funding for a project that falls under one of the following streams:
- Crime Prevention;
- Indigenous Healing;
- Gender-Based Violence; and,
- Restorative Justice.
Applicants will be notified of the results of this grant process by April 2024. For more information or assistance with the grant application, please contact the Civil Forfeiture Grants team.

Background:
The Civil Forfeiture Grant Program provides one-time funding to organizations seeking support for community safety-related projects. The Civil Forfeiture Office, established to remove the tools and proceeds of unlawful activity and re-distribute a portion of seized funds back to communities, provides the funding for this grant program. Funding streams are carefully chosen each year to ensure they align with Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General priorities. The amount of money available through this Program varies each year.
The Civil Forfeiture Act does not permit for local governments to recover their costs (e.g. protective services) as seizures may only be turned over to the provincial and federal orders of government. The UBCM membership has consistently endorsed resolutions calling for proceeds from the disposition of forfeited property to be transferred to local governments.
