Two Billion Trees program launched

Publishing Date

Following up on its announcement to plant two billion trees over 10 years, the federal government has issued calls for expressions of interest and requests for information under the Growing Canada’s Forests Program. Natural Resources Canada is looking to engage those interested in growing Canada’s forests as a nature-based solution to support national climate change actions.

The federal government has issued calls for:

  • expressions of interest for early start projects for the 2021 growing season; and
  • requests for information for future participants interested in implementing or contributing to large-scale single or multiple-year tree planting projects.

The Two Billion Trees program will support provincial, territorial, municipal, and Indigenous governments; Indigenous organizations and communities; and third-party organizations (for-profit and not-for profit). The program aims to fight climate change using nature-based solutions – like planting two billion trees over the next 10 years to clean the air and make communities greener.
