Call for nominations to UBCM’s Executive

Publishing Date

Call for Nominations has been issued to local elected officials wishing to serve on the 2021-2022 UBCM Executive. The elections and nominations process will be similar to 2020, including that nominations will not be accepted off the floor at the virtual Convention. The deadline for all nominations is Friday, July 30, 2021 at 4:00pm. Please note new rules on candidate videos and campaigning.

The Call for Nominations provides information about the positions open for nomination, the procedures, Executive member responsibilities, as well as a nomination form.

The 2021 Nominating Committee will consist of UBCM’s Past President, President and the GVRD/Metro Representative. These members were chosen, as they are not seeking re-election on the UBCM Executive. Members of the 2021 Nominating Committee are:

  • Mayor Maja Tait, Immediate Past President, Chair
  • Councillor Brian Frenkel, President
  • Councillor Craig Hodge, GVRD/Metro Vancouver Representative

Nominations: Nomination forms typically require the signatures of two elected officials. However, given that there may be barriers to obtaining signatures during the pandemic, UBCM will allow nominators to send their confirmations by email. Nominators are asked to clearly indicate the name and title of the candidate they are nominating, and for which Executive position in any email confirmation.

Speeches: Candidates will be asked to prepare a pre-recorded 2-minute video message that will be subsequently uploaded to the virtual Convention website for viewing by Convention delegates. The parameters for video messages are as follows:

  • Maximum length 2 minutes (time limit strictly adhered to)
  • Shot in landscape format (versus portrait)
  • No testimonials; only the candidate may speak
  • Shot indoors or outdoors, props permitted
  • The file size must be less than 100mb

The Nominating Committee report will be issued in mid-August and will note which candidates have been acclaimed and which positions will require elections.

During the virtual Convention, candidates will not be permitted to use the “Chat” feature to undertake campaigning activities.  The chat feature will be monitored by UBCM staff and any campaigning in that feature will be deleted.

For further information please contact Mayor Maja Tait, Chair of the Nominating Committee.
