Local Government Awareness Week

May 10-16, 2026

Local Government Awareness Week is an ongoing initiative that supports our goal of generating awareness and educating the public about the roles and responsibilities of local government, and encouraging public participation in local government processes. In the middle of Local Government Awareness Week is Asset Management Awareness Day on May 13. Local governments use sound asset management practices to ensure that current community service needs, and how those services are delivered, do not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

2026 Theme: Financial Resiliency

Financial resiliency is a local government's ability to anticipate, absorb, adapt to and recover from financial volatility while continuing to deliver essential services to communities both now and in the future. This year’s theme invites local governments to share their tips, tricks and stories about financial resiliency so that others may learn and grown from shared experiences.
