Whereas small, rural communities could derive economic benefit as service centres for the growing tourism and recreational sport of off-road vehicle touring, and by permitting the operation of golf carts between residential areas and golf courses; And whereas the Off-Road Vehicle Act that came into effect in 2014 and subsequent regulatory amendments that came into effect November 1, 2015 legislates mandatory registration in British Columbia for off-road vehicles and that this legislation applies primarily to Crown lands, including resource roads: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM call on the provincial government to amend current legislation to permit local governments to regulate the operation of off-road vehicles and golf carts within local government boundaries, similar to the existing permitted operations for snowmobiles contained within the Off-Road Vehicle Act.
