WHEREAS many communities throughout British Columbia are subject to large influxes of seasonal visitors who are not recognized in census numbers; AND WHEREAS policing resources are allocated on that census number, leaving those communities significantly under-serviced: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Policing Services Division of the Solicitor Generals Ministry allocate policing resources on a basis which recognizes seasonal population influxes.

Provincial Response

MINISTRY OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND SOLICITOR GENERAL The RCMP has recently created a Reserve Program to address seasonal fluctuations in demands for policing, to provide policing for special events and to provide short-term enhanced policing where and when required. While the Solicitor General of British Columbia provides overall direction respecting police services in the province and ensures there are adequate and effective levels of policing, police agencies operate at arms length from government. A fundamental aspect of policing is that police agencies are independent in all operational matters, including the allocation and deployment of police resources.
