Convention to open as election gets underway

Publishing Date

With the call of the provincial election today, there will be an added dimension as we welcome addresses from the three main party leaders at our annual convention. These speeches will be more closely watched than ever and will provide an early window into the direction of each campaign. To reflect common practices for provincial election periods, we are making some adjustments to our program.

Please see the Convention Program on the UBCM website and in our convention platform for the most up to date information.

New: 2020 Election Panel

The address by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing scheduled for Tuesday morning will be replaced by a 45-minute panel session exploring the strategic considerations facing the three main parties. UBCM is very pleased to welcome Maria Dobrinskaya, Director of the Broadbent Institute; Jonina Campbell, Executive Director of the Green Party; and Caroline Elliott, political commentator and PhD student in political science at Simon Fraser University to this session.

Concurrent Sessions Tuesday

The workshop on connectivity and overcoming barriers to access will go ahead as scheduled at 2:45 pm, but without Ministerial involvement. The provincial session on homelessness has been cancelled.
