On-Site Sewage Disposal Regulations

WHEREAS the on-site sewage disposal regulations require that a new on-site sewage disposal system be designed by a certified professional and the design filed with the appropriate health authority; AND WHEREAS the on-site sewage disposal regulations do not require a person increasing the size of a house connected to an existing on-site sewage disposal system to have the capacity or condition of an existing system certified by a professional; AND WHEREAS the health authority will issue an order to repair a system only after a system has failed and poses a health risk: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities urge the Province of British Columbia to amend the on-site sewage disposal regulations to require a person increasing the size of a house connected to an existing on-site sewage disposal system to have the capacity and condition of the existing system certified by a professional as being adequate for the intended use.
