Webinar: Treaty 101 – Understanding Modern Treaties in BC

UBCM members are invited to join an online session on April 9, from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, for an overview of modern treaties in BC. The presentation will outline the history of treaty negotiations, recent policy developments and the role of local governments. 

The webinar will feature BC Treaty Commissioner George Abbott and BC Treaty Commission Directors Mark Smith and Sashia Leung.

Town hall on forestry supports

Local governments and UBCM First Nations members are invited to attend a virtual town hall hosted by the Honourable Brittny Anderson, Minister of State for Local Governments and Rural Communities, and the Honourable Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests on Tuesday, February 3, from 1–2 pm, PST. The Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat (part of the Office of the Premier) has emailed invitations, including a registration link, directly to UBCM members.

Wildfire Act policy engagement: Strengthening wildfire prevention through bylaws

The BC Wildfire Service will be hosting two webinars to engage with local governments on how local bylaws and provincial legislation work together to prevent human-caused wildfires.

The webinars are an opportunity to join staff from the BC Wildfire Service for an interactive workshop and engagement session.  Content will include current approaches used in B.C. to protect public safety through regulating open burning and other activities.
