Each month, we provide an update on funding programs administered by UBCM along with and information on other programs, events, and resources of interest to local governments and First Nations. Most of the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund 2025-26 intakes are now open.
UBCM members are invited to join an online session on April 9, from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, for an overview of modern treaties in BC. The presentation will outline the history of treaty negotiations, recent policy developments and the role of local governments.
The webinar will feature BC Treaty Commissioner George Abbott and BC Treaty Commission Directors Mark Smith and Sashia Leung.
The webinar with Ministry of Forests staff to update UBCM members on proposed legislative changes to the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 2, 9:00 – 10:30 am.

Local governments and UBCM First Nations members are invited to attend a virtual town hall hosted by the Honourable Brittny Anderson, Minister of State for Local Governments and Rural Communities, and the Honourable Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests on Tuesday, February 3, from 1–2 pm, PST. The Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat (part of the Office of the Premier) has emailed invitations, including a registration link, directly to UBCM members.
The BC Wildfire Service will be hosting two webinars to engage with local governments on how local bylaws and provincial legislation work together to prevent human-caused wildfires.
The webinars are an opportunity to join staff from the BC Wildfire Service for an interactive workshop and engagement session. Content will include current approaches used in B.C. to protect public safety through regulating open burning and other activities.
The Electoral Area Directors’ Forum will take place March 10-11, 2026 at the Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport, immediately followed by the Local Government Leadership Academy Forum (March 11-13).
BC is holding a series of webinars about updates to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and new regulatory requirements for newly obligated product categories. Changes introduced in October 2025 will be reviewed in the webinars.
Build Canada Homes, Canada’s new federal agency tasked with building affordable housing at scale, is hosting a series of regional webinars to support proponents in preparing strong proposals. The webinar for BC is on Thursday, January 29 at 10am. Advanced registration is required.
Local governments are invited to a webinar – January 22, 10-11am – to review the BC Disaster and Climate Risk and Resilience Assessment (DCRRA). This new resource provides information and data to better understand how different hazard scenarios could affect people, infrastructure and communities across the province.
