As part of Budget 2026, the Province of BC has announced $15 million in funding to support the FireSmart Community Funding & Supports (FCFS) program. The additional funds will support the 2026 Winter/Spring closed intake.
When the transition from an open intake to a closed, competitive intake was announced in January, approximately $25 million was remaining in the FCFS fund.
In Budget 2026, the Province indicated that it would be slowing delivery of its housing commitments, and reallocating $1.4 billion from its housing strategy. On further inquiry UBCM learned that some of that the reallocation is coming from the Community Housing Fund, cancelling the current funding intake and indefinitely postponing future intakes as President Cori Ramsay told the Vancouver Sun.

The FireSmart Community Funding and Supports (FCFS) program will be closing its current intake for applications on January 30 due to a lack of funding. To ensure a fair process for administering the remaining funds available, the program will reopen on Monday February 2 with a competitive adjudicated grant process. This intake will receive applications until April 30.
UBCM has released the 2024 Outcomes Report, covering results of Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF) investments in BC from January 1 to December 31, 2024. This is the first outcomes report under the renewed agreement, which will transfer $3.6 billion to BC communities over 10 years. New this year, the report demonstrates how regular investment in infrastructure is helping to address housing pressures across British Columbia.
