The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is establishing a retail internet subsidy for the Far North. Selected areas of northern BC are within the CRTC’s definition of “Far North”. The CRTC is calling for comments on how to implement this subsidy, with submissions due by Feb 18, 2025.
The Regional Connectivity Knowledge Network’s next meeting is February 4, 1-3 pm PST. Staff from the Ministry of Citizens’ Services will provide updates on provincial connectivity funding programs, and the work underway to extend high-speed internet to every household in BC. Indigenous or local government elected officials and senior staff are welcome to attend. Content is focused on connectivity in rural and remote communities.
Local governments are invited to submit an expression of interest to participate in the Inclusive Climate Action for Tunisian Municipalities (ICATM) program, which runs from March 2024 to February 2029. Implemented by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and its Tunisian partner, the International Development Center for Innovative Local Governance (CILG), this initiative focuses on strengthening the climate resilience of Tunisian municipalities while promoting equity and inclusion.
UBCM is seeking to appoint local government representatives from RCMP-policed jurisdictions to the Local Government Contract Management Committee (LGCMC). There are five vacancies that are required to be filled by local government elected officials or staff members.

The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is working to develop provincial flood policy guidance, and is seeking input on a variety of flood-related topics. This work relates directly to the BC Flood Strategy, released on March 21, 2024. Written feedback will be accepted until December 20, 2024, 4 pm.
The Province is seeking input from local governments to better understand issues impacting the Bylaw Adjudication Program. Local governments are encouraged to complete the Province’s survey, which will remain open until September 25, 2024. The Bylaw Adjudication Program provides B.C. local governments with an alternative out-of-court approach to adjudicating bylaw infractions.
UBCM is seeking applicants to fill a vacant position on the Recycle BC Advisory Committee. The Committee is a forum to provide input and advice to Recycle BC staff and its board of directors on the packaging and printed paper product stewardship program.
UBCM is seeking staff representatives from small and mid-size communities for a liquor policy working group. The group is a venue for local governments to raise issues and concerns, provide feedback, and engage with the Province about the development of liquor policy.
