Engagement on new B.C. Road Safety Strategy

Publishing Date

The B.C. Road Safety Strategy Steering Committee is inviting local governments to participate in virtual engagement sessions regarding the upcoming B.C. Road Safety Strategy 2030. Formal invitations have been distributed to all local governments, providing details on session dates, registration and how to submit feedback.

BC first published a provincial Road Safety Strategy in 2013, with subsequent updates released in 2016 and 2021. The next iteration is set for publication in late 2026, and will guide road safety work through to 2030. The strategy will be structured as a high-level framework, accompanied by two rolling action plans, each spanning two years.

Local governments play a key role in road safety. These engagement sessions are an opportunity for local governments to share their perspectives on road safety priorities and challenges. Participants will receive an overview of the proposed structure and draft priorities for the 2030 strategy, and its first action plan. Feedback gathered during these sessions will help inform the final strategy.

Sessions will be organized by region, and will be facilitated by the Province to encourage discussion among participants. Local government representatives are encouraged to attend their designated regional session; however, participants may register for an alternate session if they are unable to attend at their region’s scheduled time.

In addition to the virtual sessions, there will be an opportunity to provide written feedback through August 31, 2026. Formal invitations have been distributed to all local governments. Invitations contain details on session dates, registration, and how to submit written feedback.
