This online webinar, hosted on April 9, 2026, provides an overview of modern treaties in British Columbia. The session explored the history of treaty negotiations in the province, highlighted recent policy developments, and examined the evolving role of local governments within the modern treaty process.
The webinar featured BC Treaty Commissioner George Abbott, along with Mark Smith and Sashia Leung, Directors with the BC Treaty Commission, who shared insights and perspectives from their work supporting treaty negotiations across the province.
This session was developed exclusively for local government elected officials and staff and was presented in partnership with UBCM and the Province of British Columbia.
