Webinar: update on Heritage Conservation Act proposed changes

Publishing Date

UBCM members are invited to a webinar where Ministry of Forests staff will give an update on how feedback from local governments has been incorporated in some of the proposed policy changes for the Heritage Conservation Act. Elected officials and staff from UBCM member local governments and First Nations are invited to join on Friday, March 20, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm, PDT. Please register in advance.

The session will invite questions and dialogue and from UBCM members, and outline additional engagement opportunities. Provincial staff have indicated that they plan to release a technical policy paper on the HCA prior to the webinar.

The Heritage Conservation Act Transformation Project aims to update the Heritage Conservation Act  to make permitting faster and easier, help communities rebuild quicker after disasters, protect heritage more effectively, and strengthen the role of First Nations in decision-making about their heritage.

UBCM provided input from members on the proposed changes, and has been pushing for more thorough engagement with local governments.
