Audrey Moore, a longtime mayor and former UBCM President passed away on June 20, 2025, just months before her 98th birthday.
Moore served as Mayor of Castlegar from 1977 to 1993, the longest tenure in the city’s history. She was previously a city councillor from 1973 to 1977 and held key regional roles, including with the hospital board and the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
Audrey was elected to the UBCM executive and served as UBCM President in 1983–84. She also helped establish the Columbia Basin Trust, led Castlegar’s sister-city program with Embetsu, Japan, and chaired the Selkirk College Board of Governors.
Her decades of public service earned her a Member of the Order of Canada in 2001, recognizing her impact on community development, infrastructure, and civic engagement.
A celebration of life will be held on September 19, 2025, at the Castlegar Golf Course.
