Program information for the 2026 FireSmart Community Funding and Supports program is now available. The intake will open October 1, 2025. UBCM staff will host two webinars for applicants to learn about changes to the 2026 program on July 23 and October 2. Please register in advance.
This program provides funding to local governments and First Nations in BC to undertake community-based FireSmart planning and activities that reduce the community’s risk from wildfire.
Several changes to the program will be implemented based on feedback from UBCM members and previous applicants, including:
- Funding for FireSmart activities and Fuel Management activities are now separated into distinct application and reporting processes
- Changes to reduce application and reporting complexities for regional districts
- New eligible activities: Farm and Ranch Assessments, development of bylaws related to open fires, wildland live fire training, training to develop cultural and prescribed fire practitioners
- Allocation-based funding will now allow regional applications
- Expanded opportunities for additional funding for communities that are directly impacted by wildfires
The First Nations’ Emergency Services Society and UBCM work with the Ministry of Forests to deliver the FireSmart Community Funding & Supports program. Funding is provided by the Province of BC.
