Fair Property Taxation through Accurate BC Assessment Classifications

Whereas BC Assessment property classifications do not always reflect actual property use, creating unequal tax burdens on other property owners; and this misalignment undermines municipalities ability to ensure fair and sustainable funding for local services; And whereas current tools available to municipalities to address these inconsistencies are limited and reactive, leaving taxpayers and councils without meaningful recourse: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM urge the Province of British Columbia to provide municipalities with stronger authority and practical tools to review, challenge, and correct property classifications, ensuring equitable taxation and a fair distribution of local fiscal responsibility.
