To build on the legacy of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, the Province, viaSport and Vancouver Whitecaps FC are supporting the installation of professional soccer mini-pitches to as many as 20 communities in BC. These mini-pitches are long-term, community-owned soccer facilities. Applications are open now and will be accepted until all mini-pitches have been allocated.
Mini-pitches are durable turf pitches designed to transform under-resourced or under-utilized areas into high-quality, low-barrier sport infrastructure. While the primary focus is soccer, the weather-resistant surfaces are adaptable for other sports, making them true year-round community hubs. These mini-pitches are 18m x 36m (compared to a 90x120m full-size pitch).
To ensure communities that receive new facilities have the support and programming they need to activate the pitches, each mini-pitch will be supported by programming and mentorship from Vancouver Whitecaps FC and other provincial sport organizations, such as BC Soccer and the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I·SPARC).
Each economic region will receive a minimum of two mini-pitches. Indigenous communities will be represented in the selection of the sites.
