WHEREAS the City of Kamloops has received the information distributed by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities regarding the development of a Single Business Licence that would work across jurisdictional boundaries to enhance the opportunities for small businesses to prosper while preserving municipal authority over business licensing in British Columbia; AND WHEREAS small businesses are subject to a wide array of licensing processes by the Province, such as liquor licences, elevator licences and health permits that are much more difficult to organize than business licences: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities urge the Ministry of Small Business and Revenue to defer the Single Business Licence initiative until the provincial government coordinates provincial licences and permits to expire on the same date, thus ensuring this measure will achieve its goal of reducing the regulatory burden for small businesses.
