Whereas the use of electric kick scooters is growing and will likely continue to be a preferred mode of transportation in municipalities across British Columbia, regardless of participation in the provincial pilot program, and uncertainty and inconsistent public information remain regarding the safety implications of their use on public highways in BC; And whereas regulation and enforcement of electric kick scooter usage are inconsistent between municipalities, and there is a lack of province-wide safety data collection and education programs: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM call on the Government of British Columbia to conclude the Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Program and establish province-wide regulations and data-informed education programs governing the safe use of electric kick scooters on public highways across British Columbia.
