Financial Support for Quality Public Education

WHEREAS in the 200607 and 200708 school years, the Saanich Board of Education undertook a public commission entitled Shaping Our Future - Finding the Balance in Public Education and an education visioning process; AND WHEREAS the Board of Education is at risk of not meeting those expectations because of the significant reduction in programs and services needed to balance their 200910 operating budget; AND WHEREAS the Board approved submission of an alternative budget which requests the government to appropriately invest in public education, and this budget would see the above reductions funded and services reinstated as well as an additional 3 million investment; AND WHEREAS a quality public education system provides educational, social, economic and environmental benefits to our communities and must receive the financial support necessary for each student to succeed as expected by the citizens of BC: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the districts MLA with the request that he bring this matter to the attention of his provincial counterparts, and respectfully request that he represent the interests of his constituency accordingly.
