WHEREAS viable wild salmon stocks are a vital component for the economic, cultural and social health of many communities in BC; AND WHEREAS the Legislative Assembly appointed a Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture on February 20, 2006 to examine, inquire into and make recommendations with respect to sustainable aquaculture in BC, including the environmental impacts of the aquaculture industry in the province; AND WHEREAS the Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture held public hearings in 21 communities around the province, collected 814 written submissions and received testimony from more than 80 expert witnesses: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the provincial government be requested to adopt and implement the recommendations contained in the Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture May 6, 2007, final report.
