The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) is seeking feedback from local governments on proposed changes to key environmental regulations and permitting processes related to the management of water, riparian areas and wetlands. The Ministry will host a series of virtual engagement sessions and online surveys to share additional information and solicit input.
Virtual engagement sessions
- Water Sustainability Act & Regulation – Oct 9, 9:30-11:30am Topics: construction dewatering, low volume water use, expanding eligibility for stream restoration activities
- Ice road construction for restoration sites – Oct 9, 1-2pm
- Riparian Areas Protection Regulation enhancements – Option 1 – Oct 16, 10-11:30am; Option 2 – Oct 17, 1:30-3pm
- Wetlands – Nov 6, 10am-noon Topics: best management practices for changes in and about a stream, managing wetland classes, applying the mitigation hierarchy for wetland activities, strategic use of offset payments to support wetland conversation, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland professional accountability
Online survey
The Ministry is also seeking feedback through a series of online surveys that can be accessed through the Province’s engagement portal. The surveys are open until October 17 for some topics, and until December 12 for others.
