Publishing Date

Nominations are being sought for one UBCM representative on the provincial Road Safety Strategy Committee. The Committee is a multi-stakeholder body tasked with overseeing and setting strategic direction on road safety priorities in British Columbia. Nominations will be accepted by UBCM until 4:30 p.m. on January 15, 2021.

The Committee’s oversight extends to five working groups that deal with safe commercial and passenger vehicles; safe roads in communities; research and data; safe road users (including cyclists and pedestrians); and education and awareness. Representatives include those from the RCMP, BC Association of the Chiefs of Police, ICBC, Office of the Provincial Health Officer, and provincial ministries.

The Committee meets four times per year (in-person with a teleconference option), with some ad hoc teleconference calls, and delivers an annual progress report.

Nominations are open to local government senior staff members and elected officials. Expenses associated with attending meetings shall be the responsibility of the nominating local government. Interested parties, or those seeking additional information, are asked to contact Bhar Sihota, UBCM Senior Policy Analyst.
