RCMP Contract Committee seeks input

The Local Government RCMP Contract Management Committee (LGCMC) will be meeting on April 2, 2024. Local governments wishing to suggest discussion items related to the agreement under which the RCMP provides local police services in B.C. are asked to submit input to Bhar Sihota, UBCM Senior Policy Analyst, by March 15, 2024.

The LGCMC is a forum for consultation, analysis and communication between local governments, the Province and RCMP regarding the management of the RCMP police services contract. Committee meetings present an opportunity for members to analyze and respond to changes that may be proposed from time to time by the federal government and/or RCMP, and recommend changes to the federal government and/or RCMP that may be considered necessary or appropriate.

Following a call for nominations, the UBCM Executive, at its February 16, 2024 meeting, appointed the following individuals to the LGCMC:

  • Darren Caul, City of Kelowna – Representing communities with populations over 15,000, from outside the Lower Mainland RCMP District;
  • Dave Critchley, City of Burnaby – Representing communities with populations over 15,000, from the Lower Mainland RCMP District, and within the Metro Vancouver Regional District;
  • ·Mike Younie, City of Mission -- Representing communities with populations over 15,000, from the Lower Mainland RCMP District, but outside the Metro Vancouver Regional District; and,
  • Councillor Amit Gaur, City of Parksville – Representing communities with populations between 5,000 and 15,000.
