Poverty reduction committee seeks representative

Publishing Date

UBCM is seeking expressions of interest from local government elected officials or staff to represent UBCM on the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction’s Poverty Reduction Advisory Committee. Interested candidates can submit a resume, outlining relevant experience, to UBCM staff by March 24th.

In 2019, the provincial government established the Poverty Reduction Advisory Committee to advise the Minister on matters related to poverty reduction and prevention, as legislated in the Poverty Reduction Strategy Act. Membership on the Committee includes advocates, stakeholders and people with lived experience with poverty.

Committee members provide the minister with comments to be included in the annual reports, on the effects of the strategy on poverty reduction, and any progress made towards the targets. The Committee also advises the Minister on future poverty reduction consultations.

The appointment will be for a 2-year term. Meetings can be attended either in person, by teleconference or by videoconference. Travel reimbursement and honorarium will be provided if needed.
