Governance Review: Member Survey

Publishing Date

UBCM is undertaking a governance review focused on the composition of the Executive board, in response to recent questions raised from members about representation on the Executive board, and to address a 2024 resolution (NEB14-2024) which proposes changing UBCM's name to be more inclusive of the diversity of local government types in British Columbia.

There will be several opportunities for engagement and feedback. The first is an online survey for local elected officials. The survey seeks member feedback on:

  1. The composition of UBCM’s Executive board
  2. Arguments for and against a UBCM name change

The deadline to submit the completed survey is Friday, May 29.

A backgrounder shares details on the current Executive make up.

An engagement plan provides a complete list of opportunities to learn and participate.

Each of the Area Association meetings this spring will include a session on the UBCM Governance Review, led by UBCM Executive Director Gary MacIsaac, and the consultant hired to lead the review.

Feedback received through the member survey and other engagement activities will be summarized in a report on the Governance Review, and will inform the report’s recommendations. The full report will be presented to the UBCM Executive in July, released to the UBCM membership in August, and presented at the UBCM Annual Convention in September.
