FireSmart funding further explained

Publishing Date

In anticipation of the upcoming application deadline on October 9, 2020, several supporting documents are now available to further explain the opportunities presented by the 2021 FireSmart Community Funding & Supports (FCFS) program.

In a recent Community Resiliency Investment (CRI) webinar, UBCM and BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) program staff explained new features of this year’s FCFS program, and described the Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR) stream of CRI. A recording of the webinar, a PDF copy of the PowerPoint presentation, and a transcription of the questions and answers session are now available on the UBCM CRI webpage.

These documents are meant to supplement the FCFS Program & Application Guide, application materials, Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan template, and other guidance documents which were released in July and are also available on the webpage. Further information on the Crown Land WRR program is available through the BCWS.

Applications for the 2021 FCFS funding stream must be received by October 9, 2020. Applicants are required to engage with their local Fire Centre Wildfire Prevention Officer (local government applicants) or Fuel Management Specialist/Liaison (First Nation applicants) with regard to their proposed application at least 30 days in advance of making a submission.

The FCFS program is administered by UBCM in partnership with the BCWS and First Nations’ Emergency Services Society, and is supported by the BC FireSmart Committee.
