Emergency management legislation expected in Fall 2022

Publishing Date

The provincial government has extended the timeline for introducing new emergency management legislation to Fall 2022. This comes after a summer of extreme weather, devastating wildfires, and increased drought conditions, requiring considerable attention and response efforts.

Broader engagement, including work with UBCM’s Flood and Wildfire Advisory Committee, will resume this fall. Engagement with the Advisory Committee is expected to include an update on legislative direction, phased regulation development (staggered over several years), and implementation planning.

More information regarding the emergency management legislation modernization process can be found on the Province’s information hub.
