Consultation on Daylight Savings Time

Publishing Date

The Province is consulting British Columbians on the practice of switching biannually between Daylight Savings Time (DST) and Standard Time. The states of Washington, Oregon and California, are now considering legislation that, if passed, will result in those jurisdictions adopting DST year-round.

The provincial government is considering two options:

  • Continuing the practice followed by most areas in British Columbia of changing our clocks bi-annually; or
  • Adopting year-round observance of DST.

The UBCM endorsed a resolution in 2018 calling on the Province to abandon the practice of Daylight Savings Time and implement a single time zone province wide.

Local governments are invited to complete the survey.  Feedback will be collected until July 19th.
