Local Radio by Satellite

WHEREAS the phasing out of AM radio by the broadcasting industry in favour of FM signals has resulted in poor quality or non-existent radio coverage for many rural communities; AND WHEREAS access to local radio announcements remains a key mechanism for informing the public in the event of floods, wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis or other emergencies: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission be urged to impose a requirement that providers of satellite radio services carry local radio channels within their operating areas.
