Rail Safety toolkit

Publishing Date

BC Operation Lifesaver has developed a series of materials, including a local government Rail Safety Toolkit, to help ensure the safety of residents in communities across British Columbia. Supporting videos, Wheel of Danger and Level Crossing Battle, have also been made available for sharing online by local governments.

Each year, more than 2,100 North Americans are killed or seriously injured through preventable railway crossing and trespassing incidents. While railways play an important role by transporting people and goods, the expansion of railways increases the need for collaboration to educate residents on how to keep themselves safe around tracks and trains.

Rail safety is a shared responsibility, and Operation Lifesaver is seeking the help of local governments, through the release of these materials, to promote safety around tracks and trains. The organization is funded by Transport Canada and the Railway Association of Canada, and works with interested groups and key stakeholders, including UBCM representatives, through a provincial committee.
