FireSmart BC is hosting five (5) free virtual Local FireSmart Representative (LFR) workshops beginning July 2021, and running until April 2022. Online registrations are currently being accepted for the following dates:

  • July 14/15, 2021: 8:00am – Noon PST (two consecutive ½ day morning sessions)
  • November 3/4, 2021: 8:00am – Noon PST (two consecutive ½ day morning sessions)
  • December 1/2, 2021: 8:00am – Noon PST (two consecutive ½ day morning sessions)
  • March 2/3, 2022: 8:00am – Noon PST (two consecutive ½ day morning sessions)
  • April 5/6, 2022: 8:00am – Noon PST (two consecutive ½ day morning sessions)

The LFR workshop was developed by the Partners in Protection Association to assist fire professionals and other staff to become familiar with and implement all components of the FireSmart Canada Neighbourhood Recognition Program (FCNRP).

The training provided in these workshops will equip LFRs with an understanding of current Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) concepts and wildfire hazard assessments. It will provide LFRs with the tools and skills necessary to recruit and motivate volunteer community leaders, and mentoring abilities to work with self-organized groups of citizens as they plan and implement wildfire mitigations in their own neighbourhoods. These workshops are intended to address training and awareness issues in the ‘private and community’ land areas.

Target Audience:

  • Structural Firefighters
  • First Nations and local government staff who are implementing FireSmart initiatives within their communities using Community Resiliency Investment (CRI) funding
  • WUI Specialists (e.g. RPFs, RFTs, consultants, contractors and other land specialists)
  • Rural or urban planners/managers
  • Office of the Fire Commissioner
  • Emergency management staff
  • Wildfire management staff
