Forest Policy Consultation

The Province has issued a notice advising that a multi-year initiative is underway to make improvements to the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA) legal framework.  Initial improvements will begin in early 2019, and continue over several years.

Recognizing that the FRPA is almost 20 years old, the Office of the Chief Forester and the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) indicated that the initiative is in response to the changes on the land base and in response to views and concerns of many interested groups, including UBCM members.

Second Vice-President, Councillor Brian Frenkel serves as appointment to the Minister’s Advisory that will be overseeing the FRPA review. For further information on UBCM’s policy related to community engagement and consultation on forest policy, please visit our policy page. Local governments are encouraged to review the notice and provide their feedback as consultation opportunities arise in the coming months.

Specific questions about the can also be sent directly to FLNRORD’s Resource Practices Branch.
