Board Voice Social Policy Framework Project

Board Voice, a network of community-based social service agencies from across BC, is looking for volunteers to support consultations on how a social policy framework could improve decision-making and funding for social services. UBCM supports this initiative in an advisory capacity and is a member of the Partners’ Table for the project.

In 2014, UBCM membership endorsed resolution B123, requesting that UBCM call on the Premier to begin a consultation on the development of a social policy framework.  The Board Voice project seeks to start discussions on this topic, and ultimately to inform the provincial government on potential benefits of a social policy framework for BC.

As a first stage in this project, Board Voice is coordinating consultations in 16 communities across the province:

100 Mile House Fort St. John Penticton Terrace
Abbotsford Kamloops Prince George Vancouver
Campbell River Kelowna Sunshine Coast Vernon
Duncan Nelson Surrey Victoria

Board Voice is looking for volunteers to work with the Project Leads to help design the consultation process.  This process is anticipated to include at least one facilitated meeting and could also involve having trained volunteers do clipboard conversations where community members shop and recreate.  Funding is available to cover the costs of these activities.

For more information on the project, please see the Board Voice webpage. If you would like to be involved in this project please contact the coordinator, Christine Thomas.
