Province Invites Best Practice Accessibility Strategies

The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development is looking for recent best practice examples from local governments across B.C. that have included strategies, goals, or policies in their Official Community Plans (OCPs) aimed at improving accessibility for seniors and persons with disabilities.

Accessibility 2024 is a 10-year action plan developed by the Province that supports B.C.’s vision of becoming the most progressive province for people with disabilities in Canada.  As part of that initiative, the Ministry is developing an updated guide to help communities incorporate accessibility provisions into their Official Community Plans. The aim is to make it easier for people with impaired mobility to move around, participate in community life, and access community amenities, through improved planning, design, and service provision.
To submit a best practice community example for consideration for inclusion in the guide, please send your example to Eric Nicholls by February 13, 2015:
