Province Amends Integrated Pest Management Regulation

The Province recently amended the Integrated Pest Management Regulation with respect to the sale and cosmetic use of pesticides following consultations with stakeholders.

The objective of the amendment is to ensure that:

  • Pesticides are used by people with knowledge and training;
  • Pesticides are used as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) process; and
  • Public interaction with pesticide vendors at the point of sale is increased.

The amendments are based on the 2015 Policy Update.  The Province has also developed guidance documents and information about the amendments.

Guidance documents include information for:

  • Landscapers;
  • Operators of golf courses, gardens and cemeteries;
  • Industrial land managers;
  • Residents; and
  • Vendors of domestic class pesticides.

The new requirements will not come into force until July 1, 2016, to permit vendors, service companies, industry and public time to prepare for the new requirements.
