Call for Applications: Urban Partnerships Program

Local governments are invited to apply for the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres’ 2015/16 Urban Partnerships (UP) Program.  Up to $85,000 is available for projects that increase the participation of urban Aboriginal people in the economy. Interested organizations have until March 2, 2015 to apply under one of three funding streams: Social Enterprise, Innovation or Youth.

In order to improve Aboriginal participation in the economy, the UP Program endeavours to develop and enhance local, regional and national partnerships. Projects funded by the UP Program are expected to deliver culturally relevant and sensitive programming that helps Aboriginal people in urban centres develop the skills, knowledge and training necessary to excel.

UBCM has an appointed representative on the Off-Reserve Aboriginal Action Plan (ORAAP) Provincial Coordination Team (PCT). This appointment reflects UBCM’s shared interest in improving the socio-economic outcomes of off reserve Aboriginal people in BC communities, and connects with other key priorities and ongoing work of the organization. Participation on the ORAAP PCT provides a valuable opportunity for UBCM to develop and strengthen ties with other orders of government and Aboriginal organizations such as the BC Association of Friendship Centres, with the objective of fostering positive relationships.
