UBCM invites CAOs, Corporate Officers, and Finance Officers to make time to complete the annual local government surveys before the end of February.

The purpose of the surveys is to provide local governments with high-quality, practical information for research and decision-making. We analyse the data that you provide on local government operations and administration and make it freely available in the Surveys & Statistics section of the CivicInfo BC website. In addition, UBCM uses the survey data to advocate on behalf of the needs and challenges expressed by you, our member local governments.

Using information current as of this month, please complete all surveys by no later than Friday, February 28, 2014.

Local governments that complete the three core surveys (Remuneration for Elected Officials, Salary & Benefits for Senior Staff, and Elections) by February 21 will be entered into a draw for an Early Bird prize: an amenity of your choice for your staff room, valued at $250.

We have listened to your feedback and reduced the number of surveys, in order to ease the burden on local government staff at this busy time of year. The 2014 local government surveys: short and sweet.

About the 2014 Local Government Surveys

UBCM and CivicInfo BC work with partner organizations to design and deploy the local government surveys. The information we collect through this process is heavily used by local governments across BC, and your participation is critical for the data to be of value.

This year, in an effort to increase response rates, we have upgraded our survey system, eliminating the need for local governments to login with a username and password. Instead, staff can save the survey responses at any time, and continue working on them later.

When you are finished your survey, you will have the opportunity to download and save your responses as a Word or PDF document. We strongly recommend that you do so, as these files may be useful when completing our surveys in the years to come.

The surveys we conduct in February will focus mainly on salaries and remuneration, although other time-sensitive surveys may also be administered at this time. Surveys pertaining to fees and charges will now be conducted in the Fall.
