Speakers Confirmed for 2015 Elected Officials Seminars

LGLA has a host of top-notch speakers lined up for the 2015 Elected Officials Seminars. George Abbott, former provincial minister and municipal leader, will address delegates at seven of our eight seminars. George Cuff, local government leadership expert and author of the unparalleled Cuff’s Guide for Municipal Leaders will address delegates attending the AKBLG communities’ seminar.

Seasoned Corporate Officers and Managers of Legislative Services Stephen Fleming, Chris Plagnol, Don Schaffer, Walter Babicz and Kelly Harms will cover meeting procedures in our Making Meetings Work session.

Next up we have another expert on local government leadership: Gordon McIntosh, President of the Local Government Leadership Institute and veteran speaker on governance issues such as those covered in his Roles, Responsibilities & Teamwork and Decision Making, Priority Setting & Thinking Strategically sessions.

Lawyers from BC’s top local government law firms will present Local Government Law 101 for newly elected officials and an interactive Legal Clinic for both newly elected and returning elected. Bull Housser, Lidstone, Stewart McDannold Stuart, Valkyrie, and Young Anderson are our sponsoring and presenting firms.

Doug Holmes, experienced local government CAO and Chartered Professional Accountant will deliver our Financial Management I session for newly elected officials, while former Nanaimo City Managers Jerry Berry and Al Kenning will deliver Financial Management II for returning elected.

LGLA’s Citizen Engagement session will feature communications expert Jan Enns and our Communications & the Media session will be delivered by Pace Group, a full-service communications and event management firm serving some of BC’s best-known public, private and not-for-profit organizations.
